Your Harmatia is Showing

Summary of a Story
The basic storyline for my idea is “What If I Never Met You.” Imagine being so in love with someone and putting so much of yourself into one single person because you trusted them, because you fell for them, because you love them. Imagine waking up tomorrow morning without that person you love and rely on with your whole life. I couldn’t do it. When you’ve found that person, love always seems like enough. But what if you never met them? Then what would you do? How might you find a way to get this person back in your life?

Harmatia
The “tragic flaw” I see for this kind of storyline is the fact of losing someone you love. I don’t mean losing them from death, but just by seeing what your life would be like without that one person you rely on so much. For this story, I would want it to be a flashback, an alternate universe, or a day you live over and over again until you figure out the root of the “problem” and the solution. Those stories are always fun for me to watch on screen or read in a book. I love the mystery of not knowing in the beginning, but finding out in the end what the true answer is. The ending should be satisfying, not exactly a happy ending, but satisfying.

Peripeteia
A “reversal” of the storyline can go very well with the idea of a flashback, alternate universe, or a repeated day. Stories like those that I described in the harmatia section often give off an expectation to the audience. With a reversal or twist in the story, it’s easier to be intrigued. When your expectation is wrong you immediately want to come up with another ending of the story which you think is right. This process could keep happening until the ending really does happen and you are saying to yourself, “Wow! I did not see that coming!” Those stories are always a hit. When the audience is pleased with something they did not think they would be, it is a win-win situation for everyone.

Anagnorisis
The “discovery” or “recognition” of the story is what happens at the end. Though I’ve only come up with the idea of this fictitious story, I don’t know what the ending would be. I guess it would be the satisfying ending of that person knowing exactly why the love of their life is actually in their life and that person would be glad to know this instead of questioning it. In addition, after these stories endings are revealed not only does the character have a new, open-minded perspective, but so does the audience. After a feel-good movie, everyone walks away with some new feelings of maybe hope, happiness, love, etc. I like knowing this type of story would allow the audience to have a new perspective on things and I would imagine this perspective to be positive and inspiring.
